Reed announces support for Obama

The waiting is over for US Senator Jack Reed:

"Senator Obama began this race as a leader of tremendous intellect and promise, and, now, after a long and hard fought race he is the Democratic nominee.  Senator Obama will have my full and unwavering support.

Democrats were blessed with many great candidates in this historic race, who showed all the passion, integrity, and diversity of this nation.  Foremost among these candidates who gave it their best is Senator Clinton.

Senator Clinton ran a strong race.  She has a bond with the people of Rhode Island.  She is a fighter who cares deeply about the issues and the American people.  She will and must be a significant part of our effort to make America's future better.

Now, it is time to come together.  Senator Clinton's reason for running was the same as Senator Obama's - reversing the almost eight years of President Bush's misguided domestic and international policies.

Senator Obama has fully earned the right to carry that message of change and hope in the coming months.  He can articulate that message and bring Americans of all backgrounds together in a manner that few in history can.  Now, it is the task of every American who believes we cannot continue the failed policies of President Bush to come forward and embrace the powerful and inspiring vision that Senator Obama has put forth so well."
