She's an
Airplane Man and a
Turpentine Brother, and now she's a Missus. Congrats to Tara McManus, who's made an honest man out of Turps bandmate Justin Hubbard. Less than 48 hours after Mr. Airplane Man's final gig, the newlyweds celebrated Sunday afternoon with a private soiree at ye old Abbey Lounge, where the entertainment was to have been provided by none other than Memphis garage-punk/soul/R&B/etc. geniuses the
Reigning Sound (who're
personal faves over here). Alas, RS missed the gig (as well as their Maxwell's NYC show) when main man Greg "Oblivian" Cartwright came down with food poisoning. So, as Tara recounted, "the party turned into this ridiculous drunken sing along/jam from hell involving Konks, Tampoffs, Triple Thick, Curses, me and Justin, Spitzz, it was hilarious!" The good news is Reigning Sound are soldiering their way up to Cambridge as we speak: they're still on for TONIGHT with the Turps, playing an open-to-the-public shindig at Charlie's Kitchen in Harvard Square. Anyone wondering what to do with themselves on Mick & Keef's off night is hereby instructed to buy the happy couple a drink after their opening set. Speaking of which, it wasn't so long ago that R(eignng)S(ound) frontman Greg Cartwight's
old band put out this thing, with our favorite R(olling)S(tones)-logo appropriation of all time:
