LISTEN: Bury Your Dead, "
Legend" (mp3, via cnet)
We suppose now we have to give you the local angle.
Almost immediately after the Ozzfest-eggs-Iron Maiden story
broke last week, dudes on message boards started fingering the Boston-via-NH hardcore band
Bury Your Dead as being among the culprits who were rallied from the mess tent to do the dirty deed. Within hours, the band refuted those allegations on its
web site. Earlier today, BYD
told MTV.com News that they'd received death threats from Iron Maiden fans. But that wasn't nearly as interesting as the jiggy alibi provided by bassist Rich Casey (note: our links).
"In fact, Casey claims Bury Your Dead even have video footage, shot during Maiden's set, proving that most of the band 'wasn't even near the main stage.' That's because for the last few weeks a camera crew's been following them around at the behest of actor Will Smith [scroll down] who's been tagging along on this summer's Ozzfest with wife Jada Pinkett Smith and her band, Wicked Wisdom. Smith hopes to take the footage and convert it into reality-television gold."
Somehow we let that whole Jada-sings-metal thing go by without comment over the summer (the last second, someone asked us to review her first Ozzfest gig, but she was on at like 9:15 a.m.? This train don't leave that early for
nobody). For the record: it's wicked creepy. We'll let it slide because she
rocks an
It Dies Today shirt. And if Will and Jada wanna take over
The Battle for Ozzfest, we won't be mad at that.
