Bradley's Almanac was nice enough to wait a couple months before posting it, but now you can hear for yourself exactly what happened the night Chan Marshall played her solo gig at the MFA. After the unexpected triumph of her Memphis band tour, she gave a series of interviews declaring her infamous self-destructing-on-stage years were behind her. Then she played the MFA show, which nearly ended halfway through with her walking offstage in the midst of a crazy rant about the soundsystem and the nature of her sincerity. Download the entire show over at Bradley's Place to see what we're talking about.

When Elvis was in his really bad period, the Colonel issued an LP called Having Fun With Elvis on Stage that contained no music and simply edited together about a half hour's worth of the King's increasingly strange between-songs banter. If Matador ever compiles Having No Fun with Chan on Stage this would probably be the single:

From your gleeful headline ("Cat Power's MFA meltdown: now in mp3!") and reference to Elvis' "really bad period", one would gather you think Chan Marshall was drunk/drugged out during the second show that night (rather than simply frustrated/unhinged by the constant technical problems that were completely absent from her great first show). The girl is trying to stay sober while battling a long-standing problem with major depression and anxiety disorder. But hey, it's always nice to know that there are sensitive, caring people like you who assume the worst and are rooting for the return of a self-destructive past that almost killed her.

agreed. pretty tasteless of you. if you can't have the talent to make music like Chan Marshall does, at least you can make fun of her in a public venue.
