OTD alumni association: Cami, Age Rings reunited in Village Voice blog post

Since leaving our fair city for the cold-hearted Rotten Apple, Cami has been blogging her face off for her new employers, the New Times/Village Voice Media empire. We don't want to get her in trouble with her new boss (same as her old boss), but for our money she's the best thing going down there. And as Boston indie-rockers are finding out, we didn't lose our favorite OTD correspondent, we've gained a couch to crash on in Brooklyn. Figuratively if not literally. Ms. Dodero has not only started a fun street-art blog, she's also helming the Voice's new mp3 blog, Sound of the City, which today includes a new, exclusive track from Phoenix staffer Will Spitz's band Age Rings. (As a mark of its impact, SOTC already has picked up an honor never bestowed upon OTD: its own I Love Music board thread, complete with Scott Seward snark!) As for the Age Rings track, it's conceptual genius: they've realized the Bosstones' dream of covering someone else's song before it's even been officially released. More than a dozen years ago the Bosstones attempted, and almost managed, to cover Metallica's "Enter Sandman" before the cassingle hit the streets. For their VV blog debut, Age Rings have gone one better and covered the Jarvis Cocker/Air track "One Hell of a Party," the original version of which won't be on iTunes for another month. Those of you with NYC couches to crash on are encouraged to check out the Age Rings gig at Piano's on Saturday.
