Straight from the Internet's mouth, here's today's music buzz:
The Smashing Pumpkins, who are already
on our shit list for scheduling shows in San Francisco, North Carolina, and
Europe (everywhere BUT Boston basically), were slightly redeemed by their
newest single "Tarantula," which combines everything awesome
about Smashing Pumpkins - the thrashing guitars, the
"Drown"-style contemplativeness - although not everyone liked it.
But now they've gone and sold
their souls to the devil. The Pumpkins' upcoming album, Zeitgeist,
will be available in four different versions - one standard version, and three
with exclusive bonus tracks. The three "special" versions will
be available only at - wait for it - iTunes, Target, and Best Buy. Where's the
love for the indie music stores?
Friday, we're in love. The Cure is touring,
and they've scheduled a September date at Agannis Arena. That gives you three
months to perfect your Robert Smith-style smeary eyeliner look.
Jack White is returning to movie-land, to play Elvis Presley in John C.
Reilly's upcoming musical
biopic parody.
Slate weighs in on R. Kelly
- the self-described "sexosaurus" (ew) - and his new album Double
Up, via podcast.
