New England Fall Guide 2006

Download the Phoenix Fall Guide 2006 to your iPod

Installation:
  1. Click that big, honking "Get the Fall Guide for your iPod" button above.

  2. When prompted, save the file to your computer and unzip it. When you unzip, it should create a file called "The Phoenix Fall Guide 2006."

  3. Make sure your iPod is connected to your computer. Instead of accessing your iPod through iTunes, you'll want to mount it as an external drive.

    • In Windows, your iPod will appear in "My Computer."

    • On a Mac, it will appear in "Finder."

  4. Open the folder on your iPod labeled "Notes" and drag the unzipped "The Phoenix Fall Guide" folder into it.

How to blaze the Fall Guide on your iPod:
  1. Turn on your iPod. Duh.

  2. Choose "Extras" from the main menu.

  3. When you're in the "Extras" menu, select "Notes," then "The Phoenix Fall Guide 2006."

    • DON'T FREAK: the first time you select "Fall Guide," it'll take a minute for the files to load. But it'll only do that the first time.

  4. You're ready to rock: you can browse all categories using the scroll wheel, then drill down or select by using the click button. To go back up a level, click the menu button.

Help me!

Q: If I put the Fall Guide on my iPod, will I still have room for porn and Radiohead bootlegs?
A: Yes. The Fall Guide takes up only about 300k: less space than a Minor Threat song.

Q: What is this "Notes" folder you speak of?
A: If you've opened your iPod as an external drive and there's no "Notes" folder, it might be time to upgrade. (The "Notes" function is available on most iPods made after 2003.)

Q: Wait, how do I open my iPod as an external drive? Can't I just use iTunes?
A: OK. Deep breath.

  1. Connect your iPod to your computer and open iTunes.
  2. In the iTunes source list (on the left-hand side), select your iPod.
  3. Click the iPod icon in the lower right-hand corner of iTunes (that's the "iPod Options" button, not the "eject iPod" button).
  4. Towards the bottom of the iPod Options display, click the "Enable disk use" box, then click "OK."
  5. When you close iTunes, you'll see your iPod display as an external drive.
    • If you have a Mac, it'll show up on your desktop
    • If you have a PC, it'll show up in Windows Explorer
  6. Now go back and follow the "Installation" instructions, above.

Q: I downloaded "The Phoenix Fall Guide 2006.zip" to my computer. How do I unzip it?
A: For starters, try double-clicking on the file. If that doesn't work, you can download a program that'll do it for you. For Windows, try WinZip; for Mac, try Stuffit Expander.

Q: It's 2007! How do I get the Phoenix Fall Guide 2006 off my iPod?
A: Well, you can visit thePhoenix.com to download the newest version of Fall Guide. Or, just mount your iPod as an external drive, open the "Notes" folder, and delete "ThePhoenix Fall Guide 2006." No problema.
