The festival, which claims to be the largest of its kind in the Americas, has moved from Vermont to Connecticut and takes place July 9 through 23. The festival includes two weeks of classes in early music for players of all levels. Public concerts begin at 7:30 pm, except as noted. Tickets are $15, $10 for students and seniors.

The artistic director of the festival is Peter Sanders. Concerts begin at 8 pm. Both Sat concerts are at Chandler Music Hall. Tickets are $20, $35 for both shows, $5 for students. The Aug 18 concert is at the Unitarian Church of Montpelier, 130 Main St, in Montpelier. Tickets $20 at the door only. This year's concerts take place on Wed and Thurs at 8 pm, from July 12 through Aug 17. Wed concerts are at the University of Vermont Recital Hall in Burlington. Straddling the US-Canadian border, the opera house opened in June 1904 and remains virtually the same today. Most of the seats are in the US, and the stage is in Quebec. (Do the ushers have to go through customs?) Concerts run throughout the summer. Bring the family, but leave the younger children with a sitter. Schedule not available at press time.

For almost 25 years, internationally-acclaimed musicians have been coming to perform in the serenity of Central Vermont as part of this residency music program. This year's Music in the Mountains series runs from July 1 through Aug 12, with concerts on Sat at 7 pm at the Rams Head Lodge. Tickets $15, $18 reserved. Aug 12 concert $20.

The title of this sunmer's series is Amadeus 250, celebrating Mozart's 250th birthday. Concerts are at 8 pm at the Arkell Pavilion on the grounds of the Southern Vermont Arts Center. Tickets are $20 to $30.

Vermont makes a big deal about Mozart because his death, in 1791, coincided with the granting of statehood to Vermont. (Coincidence . . . ?) This year's series runs from July 16 through Aug 6 at locations throughout Northern Vermont. Many concerts feature the Vermont Mozart Festival Orchestra. Many venues allow picnicking prior to performances. Check the Web site for details. Tickets are $25 in advance except as noted.

The Yellow Barn is a chamber-music school located about 10 miles north of Brattleboro. Chamber music is performed by world-class artists and emerging professionals in a lovely and intimate setting. The summer festival, which runs from July 7 through Aug 5, includes 25 concerts, featuring conservatory students, faculty, and guests. Concerts are mostly at the Yellow Barn Concert Hall in Putney, VT and the Buckley Recital Hall at Amherst College in Massachusetts. All concerts are at 8 pm, except as noted. Pre-concert suppers and post-concert receptions on various dates. Tickets are $15 to $25, except as noted. Call or visit the Web site for program information.
