This theater, built in 1933, is one of the few remaining independent cinemas in the area. Coolidge Corner specializes in art-house premieres, animation, independent features, retrospectives, cult favorites (Sat at midnight), and programs by local filmmakers. Tickets $9.50, $6.50 Mon through Thurs for seniors and children 12 and under, $7.50 for matinees and for kids and seniors Fri through Sun.

This Landmark Theatres outlet runs independent and foreign films. Tickets $9, $6.50 for seniors and children 12 and under. Student tickets are $7.25 Mon through Thurs only. Bargain matinees are $6.50 for the first shows of the day on Sat and Sun, and for any show before 6 pm Mon through Fri.

Where screenwriters inherit the earth. The 11h annual festival, held from June 14 through 17, includes staged readings of screenplays, panel discussions, and an annual Screenwriter's Tribute. This year's offerings include Danny Schechter's latest documentary In Debt We Trust: America Before the Bubble Burst, a look at America living on borrowed time and money. One of the last of the big-screen movie houses, the theater shows first-rate, second-run foreign, art, and Hollywood films. There are five screens and a Ticketmaster outlet.
