This Maine-based bluegrass festival gathers together like-minded musicians twice every summer for weekends of picking, picnicking, and dancing. This year's events take place June 15 through 18 and Aug. 24 through 27. Featured bands include the III Generation Bluegrass Band, Carolina Rebels, Diamonds and Rust, the Mullers, Dan Paisley and Southern Grass, White Mountain Bluegrass, Bluegrass Diamonds, Cross Over, Union River, Moron Brothers, Goldwing Express, Rustic Harmony, Gillis Brothers, Blistered Fingers, and Rhonda Vincent and Rage. Ticket prices vary with length of stay. Rough camping is available. Performances on Thurs at 5 pm, on Fri from noon to 10 pm, on Sat. from 10 am to 10 pm, and on Sun. from 9 am to mid-afternoon. Full weekend passes are $45 in advance and $55 at the door, day passes are $10 on Thurs and Sun, $20 on Fri and Sat. Children under 12 free with adult.

Fifty hours of continuous bluegrass music from Aug 31 through Sept 3. Four-day pass $110 in advance, $120 at gate; three-day pass $100 in advance, $110 at gate. Two-day pass for Sept 3 and 4, $75. Some of the top names in blues music will be featured on the main stage. This year's theme is A Tribute to New Orleans. No coolers or pets allowed, but you can bring along blankets and chairs. On July 15 and 16, gate opens at 9 am and music starts at 11 am. Tickets for either day $25 in advance and $30 at the gate. Weekend passes $45 in advance, $60 at the gate. Reserved-seating weekend pass $100.

The festival runs July 27 through 30 this year. Festival includes workshops, craft vendors, music vendors, bluegrass, and the New England Flat Picking & Banjo Championship and the New England Songwriting Contest. This year's performers include the Grascals, the Gibson Brothers, Valerie Smith and Liberty Pike, Chatham County Line, Jim and Jennie and the Pinetops and the Bagboys. Campsites and RV hookups available. Tickets for entire weekend are $44 before June 30, $52 afterward. Day passes $15, $22 on Sat. Free for children under 16. Check the Web site for schedule.

White's Beach presents its 9th Annual Traditional Family Bluegrass Festival July 14 through 16. Off-stage field-pickin' 24 hours a day! Bands include Back to Basics, Borderline Bluegrass, the Gelina Family, Breaking Strings, Katahdin Valley Boys, North Star, Pine Hill Ramblers, and the Union River Band. The music kicks off on Fri from 4 to 9 pm and continues on Sat from 10 am to 9:30 pm, and on Sun from 10 am until whenever. Weekend tickets are $30 until July 1, $40 afterward. Daily tickets $12 on Fri, $23 on Sat ($12 after 5 p.m.), and $14 on Sun. Children under 16 free with adult.
