Phone: 413.786.9300
Formerly known as Riverside Park, the 235-acre property has been part of the Six Flags chain for many years and, with more than 60 rides, is easily the largest amusement park in New England. This year's season promises the newly "twisted" Superman ride, "Bizarro," a comic book reference to the man of steel's genetically engineered doppelganger. Ride includes a 221 feet drop into a fog-filled tunnel, audio accompaniment and "perfectly timed" fiery flame effects. Family-friendly, non-spinning attractions include a 1950s-style soda shop, live Dixieland and rock music, and the usual glut of food stands. From June 26 through Sept 1, open weekdays from 10:30 am to 9 pm, on Sat from 10 am to 10 pm, and on Sun 10:30 am to 9 pm. Non-peak-season hours vary. Six Flags' water park, Hurricane Harbor, open through Sept. 7. General admission $41.99, $31 for those under 54' inches tall, free for children two years and younger. Daily online special $39.99. Parking $15.
