The museum is housed in three buildings on a two-acre campus and includes the Griswold House, an 1864 stick-style house designed by Richard Morris Hunt (available to rent for functions), and the Cushing Gallery, a neoclassical building erected in 1919. The museum focuses on the contemporary and historical art of Newport and southeastern New England. Open Tues through Fri from 11 am to 3 pm, Sat from 10 am to 4 pm, and Sun noon to 4 pm. Admission $8, $6 for seniors, $5 for students, and free for children under five.

The RISD Museum traces the history of art from antiquity to the present through its collection of more than 80,000 works of art in all media from many cultures. The museum features recently renovated galleries in the Pendleton House, the earliest example of an "American wing" in any museum. Open Tues through Sun from 10 am to 5 pm, and on every third Thurs of the month until 9 pm. Admission $10, $7 for seniors, $3 for students, $3 for children five through 18. Free on Sun from 10 am to 1 pm, on the third Thurs of the month from 5 to 9 pm, and on the last Sat of the month.
