The Motion Sick

motionsick

Nerd meets quirk meets Steampunk meets pop meets Kurt Vonnegut. THE MOTION SICK are one of those bands that defy definition, yet seem that haunting sort of achingly familiar that you can’t quite put your finger on. They fight convention while merrily embracing it on their own terms (naturally), a sentiment that undoubtedly drove their debut album, Her Brilliant Fifteen, to earn the accolade “Band of the Month” from SPIN magazine in 2006. The song “30 Lives” — off the 2008 album The Truth Will Catch You, Just Wait — is a kicky dose of high-school nostalgia and peppery pop culture, suitably beguiling in all the right places.
