Twin Donuts

Name be damned, you don't have to be a donut fan to enjoy the offerings of this family-owned Allston landmark. With its huge, glowing retro sign looming high above the surrounding bars and restaurants, TWIN DONUTS is a hard place to miss. And it's stood there for more than 50 years, serving up a menu full of great diner food at donut-shop prices, making it the perfect place for early-morning and afternoon food fixes. The egg-and-cheese sandwiches rule. (The owners actually cook an egg!) If you must, the donuts are made in-house, too, and exceed the quality of what we New Englanders are used to. But the shining glory is the iced coffee, which comes in four flavors (chocolate, raspberry, French vanilla, and cappuccino) and is incredibly rich.
