Best Awkward, Pre-Bathroom Conversation
Charlie’s Kitchen
CHARLIE'S KITCHEN, in Harvard Square, has a stellar beer selection, and it's cheap, too. Most Bostonians know that by now, which is why the place is often packed. Consume enough of said beers in the upstairs bar on any given night and, inevitably, you may end up in that hilariously tiny, dark waiting space, cramped between the doors to the two single bathrooms and the door leading back to the restaurant. This unavoidable restroom portal — which is maybe five feet by five feet on a good day — can comfortably fit one person, which means, on a crowded night, it's possible to spend several awkward moments making conversation (or avoiding conversation) with some Guinness-breathed stranger, in a less-than-preferable amount of personal space. Best-case scenario: you'll have an amazing chat about how, when it comes to French New Wave directors, you both prefer Truffaut to Godard. Worst-case scenario: you'll just barely dodge an unprovoked, unwanted attempt at a make-out session. Either way, it'll make for a good story over beers two minutes later.CHARLIE'S KITCHEN | 10 Eliot Street, Harvard Square, Cambridge | 617.492.9646 | myspace.com/charlieskitchen
