Ruins

"Look on these ruins, ye hungry, and despair." Shelley might have written that had he been in the Fenway recently and looking for a burrito. He would have beheld the boarded-up, scorched remnants of the bistro row on PETERBOROUGH STREET that was destroyed on January 6. The six restaurants leveled were the Greek Isles, Thornton's Grille, Rod-Dee Thai Cuisine, the Umi Japanese Restaurant, El Pelón Taquería, and Sorrento's Italian Gourmet. All were individually owned and beloved by the neighborhood and visitors alike. Are they gone forever? Will they be replaced by KFCs and Olive Gardens? Don't despair! At a community meeting at nearby Church restaurant on February 23, the owners vowed, phoenix-like, to return from the ashes. (Keep posted on progress at the El Pelón Web site.)
