Bikes Not Bombs

BIKES NOT BOMBS is the Superman of local causes. There’s pretty much nothing the Jamaica Plain nonprofit can’t do. Save the environment? Empower the world? Leap buildings in a single bound? Well, that last one might be a stretch. Bikes Not Bombs recycles roughly 6000 bikes a year, which are then repaired and redistributed in lower-income neighborhoods around Boston and throughout the Third World. Other cape-worthy ventures include a top-notch bike shop, youth-training and -education opportunities, and a program that sends technicians and tools abroad to help like-minded start-ups get on their feet. Quite deserving of superhero status, indeed.
