Best Local Non-Profit

AIDS Action Committee

First, we have to say we love all our local nonprofits equally and we stand in awe of the work they do. But leave it to you, our readers, to single out one organization. This year’s shining star goes to AIDS ACTION, New England’s first and largest AIDS organization. The group provides support services, educates the public and health professionals, and hassles the pols for fair AIDS policy. While you may recognize them from the annual AIDS Walk, thousands of men, women, and children living with HIV and AIDS know about the group thanks to the free services it provides. Extra points go to the expanded testing hours at AIDS Action’s South End center for gay and bisexual men. Weekends and late night? Ain’t no better time to practice safe sex.
