Fat Ram's Pumpkin Tattoo

We should just start calling this category “Best Tattoo Shop Besides Fat Ram’s,” or get Ram himself to pick the second-best tattoo shop each year because, clearly, all of our inked-up Phoenix readers are fans of Jamaica Plain’s FAT RAM’S PUMPKIN TATTOO. The place has become a legend, mainly via word-of-mouth and -Internet— both recommended ways to figure out where to get tattooed — and understandably so. Fat Ram’s small staff puts the emphasis on “artist” in “tattoo artist”; legends of their friendliness, crafty inking skills, and hours spent making preliminary drawings of tattoo designs so they’re just right abound. Ram himself is a former School of Fine Arts student, so you could say that art runs in his blood, though it’s more likely to be ink.
