Best Thrift Shop
Boomerangs

Jamaica Plain’s Centre Street hot spot for housewares, used and vintage clothing, and a plethora of knick-knacky miscellany, BOOMERANGS is a thrift store with a heart. One hundred percent of their proceeds benefit the AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts, a nonprofit founded in 1983 that offers free health services for those affected with HIV and AIDS. That’s not the only reason to visit the store but, by our estimates, it’ll make you feel 20 percent better about buying an enormous green vase, a copy of My Best Friend’s Wedding on VHS, a polka-dot polyester top, and a mug that says “Mommy Needs Her Coffee.” (And we’d feel good about buying those things already!) Business has been booming in the past year for Boomerangs — its owners having been scouting a space for a possible second location, in West Roxbury.
