Maine's landscape possesses a certain gravitas. In Maine, the shores are so much more forbidding, but that doesn't make them worse.And who expresses Maine's austerity and power better than the late artist Andrew Wyeth. The Farnsworth Museum, up in Rockland, is a modest museum housing a large collection of the Wyeth family's works. Specializing in art related to Maine, current and past, the Farnsworth has a strong permanent collection and features a strong schedule of rotating exhibits highlighting Maine artists and art that celebrates Maine.
