Best Cure For Asian Appetite

Angkor

The medicine soup at ANGKOR would be yummy even if it weren't good for you. (Well, even if it were bad for you, frankly.) It's called nam yaa, the second word of which is probably the same exclamation of pleasure in Cambodian as it is in English. You've got your vinegary tang, offset by sweetness, plus there are the flavor components of lemongrass, lime leaves, ginger, garlic, and an earthy breath of galanga root. That's all in the golden broth, before you get down to the shredded cabbage, chicken, and shrimp. Good for what ails you, if you're sick and tired of soups on the bland side. No wonder this is their biggest selling item. It's $4.75 for a cup, $6.75 for a bowl. There's no price listed for the whole pot. | 333 Wickenden Street, Providence | 401.383.2227
