The Loft

There are numerous potential responses to the nautical design of THE LOFT, the restaurant at NYLO Providence/Warwick, the new hotel. Drunken sailors might look around hopefully for mermaids. Guests who have had psychotropic appetizers might start swimming around worriedly in search of Little Nemo. After all, the barstools are stylized silver mooring posts with decorative wraps of thick hawsers. The tables are shallow transparent boxes containing hundreds of heaped seashells. The lighting fixtures dangle down with branch coral fingers. Even the bar continues the mood, shaped in a wavelike curve and covered in silvery scales, like an undulating sea serpent.
