East Providence Heritage Days

Though the EAST PROVIDENCE HERITAGE DAYS festival quickly outgrew the parking lot of City Hall and began booking big-name acts to attract crowds to Pierce Stadium, it has held on to its original mission: to throw a big party to celebrate the different heritages of EP residents (the 29th annual bash runs July 17 through 19). Last year's fest had Portuguese, Afro-Puerto Rican, Middle Eastern, and Caribbean music groups performing during the day, plus the big concerts (often by rock tribute groups) at night. An artisan's corner had five Rhode Islanders demonstrating their crafts. And the food vendors outdid themselves, with steaming piles of chouriço and peppers, sugar-dusted mallasadas (akin to doughboys), all-American hamburgers and hot dogs, all-Rhody clam cakes and chowder, and a Chinese stir-fry. Plenty of carbs to stoke on for all the dancing you can manage. Boogie on down! | 201 Mercer Street, East Providence | 401.435.7511 | eprecreation.com
