Best Nickname Turned Trademark

Peafunk Designs

Two-and-a-half years ago, when Martha and Brian Smith decided to open a gift shop in Wickford, they turned to Martha's sister Amy Pesta, who was making hand-crafted jewelry and asked her to become part of their team. They took over the name she'd already used online for her craft, based on a high school nickname, and the store became PEAFUNK DESIGNS. Martha now makes jewelry with her sister, and the store also displays Brian's photographs, primarily Rhode Island scenes. The sisters' jewelry-making turns glass, natural wood, and stone beads, plus shells and Swarovski crystals, into necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and anklets. Amy also makes original pins from colored wire, buttons, shells, and beads. Peafunk also carries gel candles and wooden-wicked soy candles from Ohio, Virginia, and Arkansas (check out the "fruit" gels); photo cards and coasters; locally-made wire sculptures and other artworks; hand-crafted wooden jewelry boxes; and jewelry travel cases. This family-owned business stays true to its motto: "Where elegance meets funk." | 24 Brown Street, Wickford | 401.295.0333 | peafunk.com
