28 Degrees

28 DEGREES has a lot going for it: scrumptious modern-American fare, delicious cocktails, a chill Manhattan-chic vibe, and . . . über-cool bathrooms. Without question, the dopest latrines in Boston are located at One Appleton Street, inside the nearly three-year-old South End hot spot. The restaurant’s water theme, infused throughout the establishment, is really at its best in the restroom area, which has a spa-like, almost aquarium feel. A glass ceiling holds back bubbling H2O, and filtered lighting creates a magnificent aquamarine glow. Undulating, etched glass separates the men from the women, while blue-green, glossy walls and flooring continue the water effect even into the stalls. Sure, the combination of a full bladder and long line may prove tortuous amid such wet ’n’ wild surroundings, but urinary discomfort is a small price to pay when in the presence of lavatorial genius.
