Best Church Basements in Which To See Subversive Lesbian Fairy Tales

Theater@First

We used to associate church basements with white-elephant fundraisers and 4-H meetings. That is, until we started hanging out in Somerville. Now, thanks to THEATRE@FIRST — which performs in such Davis Square–centric locales as First Congregational Church of Somerville and Unity Church of God — we associate them with feisty tales of vampires (Dracula), dapper-yet-demonic lechers (a cabaret performance of “Have Some Madeira, M’Dear”), and one distress-thwarting damsel “destined by a conniving fairy to be a lesbian” (Never After).
