Review: Fired Up!

Despite its Cheerleader Movie appearance, this is very much a Guy Movie

VIDEO: The trailer for Fired Up!

During the end credits of this horny-teen comedy from director Will Gluck and writer Freedom Jones (first-timers both), there's a collection of profanity-laden outtakes — except that the offending language is bleeped and otherwise obscured by block letters spelling "F.U.!" (See film title.) So if you're a guy who's reluctant to view a neutered movie (and despite its Cheerleader Movie appearance, this is very much a Guy Movie), you might want to wait for the unrated DVD. Still, for a film that relies on the dumb premise of a pair of high-school lotharios forgoing football camp in order to attend cheer camp with "300 girls who want it just as much as we do," the verbal gymnastics of Jones's script almost measure up to the physical ones. Both are handled gamely by Eric Christian Olsen (the Jim Carrey stand-in in Dumb and Dumberer) and Nicholas D'Agosto (Rocket Science), who share an easy chemistry as Nick and Shawn. The 300 girls aren't bad either.
