Putting together a touring bill with the Pretenders, Cat Power and Juliette Lewis is a bit of a provocative gesture -- as a friend of mine said, "Why they didn't call this the ‘Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown' tour, I'll never know."

Mmes. Lewis, Marshall, and Hynde (who came to the Bank of America Pavilion on Wednesday) have each been known, from time to time throughout the years, to show off their own peculiar brands of kookiness - be it feeling up Cate Blanchett, melting down in a sozzled mess on stage, or making rather unfortunate public policy statements.

We love them for it. And if each of them is crazy in her own peculiar way, they're also able to channel their unconventional energy into wildly different but equally compelling and commanding performances.
