7L & Esoteric |
The local rap duo 7L & ESOTERIC head east on their new full-length, 7L & Esoteric Present Esoteric Vs. Japan: Pterodactyl Takes Tokyo (Fly Casual Collective). Esoteric mines Japanese cultural classics, from Godzilla films and a Japanese version of Spider-Man, for a busy backdrop of sampled sounds against which 7L rails about the US (“God Less America”), namedrops Steve Carell, and just generally maintains an edgy flow. They’ll celebrate the disc’s release upstairs at the Middle East with the BLADE RUNNERS next Friday, June 13. . . . If you haven’t caught former Victory at Sea frontwoman MONA ELLIOTT’s new band with ANAR BADALOV (of Metal Hearts), this Saturday’s your chance: TRAVELS join the DOUBLE STOPS, PATRONS OF SWEET, and GUILLERMO SEXO at P.A.’s Lounge. And for those of you planning to check out the MISSION OF BURMA shows coming up next Thursday and Friday, June 12 and 13, at the Paradise, the trio will be playing Signals, Calls and Marches on the first night and Vs. on the second in honor of the reissue of those discs (plus the live album The Horrible Truth About Burma) in “definitive” form with bonus tracks and each with a bonus DVD of classic live performances.
