"Shakespeare's Jews"

This event occurs in the past, Jan 26 2011
559 Washington St, Boston, MA   (view map)

Poor Shylock. Dude really got a bad rap in the annals of literary history. All he wanted was what was owed to him . . . it wasn’t his fault that just happened to be a pound of man flesh. Shakespeare’s famous Jew will have his moment of redemption tonight at the ArtsEmerson and New Center for Arts and Culture panel discussion “Shakespeare's Jews,” which will explore, among other things, the way Shylock was portrayed in the original Merchant of Venice and the way in which more recent productions of the play have tweaked one of literature’s most controversial Jewish characters. The panel includes F. Murray Abraham, Theatre for a New Audience artistic director Jeffrey Horowitz, and Shakespeare & Company founding artistic director Tina Packer. If you cut him, does he not bleed? They’ll answer that question and a lot more at the Paramount Theatre.

With F. Murray Abraham, Robert Brustein, Jeffrey Horowitz, and Tina Packer
