For his congenial, quietly hagiographic film biography of Philip Glass, cinematographer/director Scott Hicks (Shine) follows the visionary composer for 14 months around the world, taking in opera and film-score gigs; he also had access to Glass’s friends, family, and spiritual mentors. Among the on-camera presences: Ravi Shankar, Woody Allen, Errol Morris, Chuck Close. Glass comes off as a likable, unassuming presence and also a bit of an enigma. What’s his relation to his odd older son, who is briefly interviewed? And why does his second marriage, which has been shown as ideal for most of the documentary, seem rocky and irreparably troubled in the final acts? 115 minutes | MFA: June 26-29; July 3, 5, 6, 10, 12, 13, 19, 29; August 2
