Video nuggets to munch on

Tasty chicks, treadmills, Baywatch scenes, and more.
By WILL SPITZ  |  August 8, 2006

It’s no shocker that publicity firms and record labels — both major and indie — are using video-sharing sites to get more eyeballs on their bands. They get more traffic than the San Diego Freeway at rush hour, and besides, you think MTV’s gonna play your video? Here are a few YouTube and Google Video nuggets to munch on.

CSS, “Let’s Make Love and Listen to Death from Above”
The song: a cross between Spoon’s “I Turn My Camera On” and LCD Soundsystem’s “Daft Punk Is Playing at My House.” The video: the cute, playful Brazilian chicks of CSS being cute and playful in various settings. The verdict: more artifice than art, but isn’t that the point? Available via YouTube.

OK Go, “Here It Goes Again”
Here they go again: the band whose entire career is based on a hilariously choreographed, no-budget video for an utterly unmemorable song return with another hilariously choreographed, no-budget video for an utterly unmemorable song. This time they’ve got treadmills. Available via YouTube.

Paris Hilton, “Starlight”
A sex symbol extraordinaire frolicking on the beach with a chiseled young stud in black and white (remember Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” video?) over a measles-contagious ska-pop confection — that’s hot. Available via Google Video.

David Hasselhoff, “Jump in My Car”
Dirk Nowitzki’s muse, the beloved Hoff, resplendent in a black leather jacket and wifebeater, urges women half his age to follow the title instruction, with said auto being — no joke — none other than KITT from Knight Rider. There’s American flags, flames, unapologetically cheeseball graphics and visual effects, a “Don’t Hassel the Hoff” T-shirt, air guitar, even a Baywatch scene. Pure comedic gold. Available via Google Video.
