WCYY have much to be proud of for the excellent RAVE AND RAGE show that went down last Saturday night up in Lewiston at the Colisee. Organized by Spinout guru MARK CURDO (who’s making people forget the Facemelter, and no disrespect meant), the show, featuring DEAD SEASON, the KILLING MOON, a 6GIG reunion, the CAMBIATA, COVERED IN BEES, SPARKS THE RESCUE, TWISTED ROOTS, and fan vote-in ABSENCE OF THE SUN, pulled in roughly 1000 fans, making it one of the larger ticketed all-local gigs in the past 10 years (we’re thinking Rustic’s State Theatre shows were bigger, Best Music Poll shows slightly smaller). The sound was a little mushy, but the moshing ramped up to intense from time to time and the arena never looked remotely cavernous. Dead Season were clearly the headliner, and if you’ve been underestimating them, stop now: every third kid in that joint was wearing Dead Season swag and the band sold out of the new album T-shirt before the third band got done playing.
FASTER! FASTER! have set a date for the release of their debut EP, Music. Sex. Caffeine.: June 13. It coincides with the kick-off party for the MAINE ACADEMY OF MODERN MUSIC, where they study, which will be held at Greely Middle School in Cumberland.
Be on the lookout for ALIAS GRACE, a literary set who like Margaret Atwood and will release their debut disc, Bottles and Bones, later this summer. If you’re into the CAMBIATA and TV ON THE RADIO, this band are for you.
Don’t be surprised if you stumble upon new three-piece indie types LOW 90, who sound like the CURE fronted by MARK MOTHERSBAUGH, or maybe a track from the Better off Dead soundtrack.
