To visit South End Buttery for the first time is to find a wonderful small restaurant that only tactically shows its roots as a bakery-café. You will want the bread pudding and the beet salad with Yorkshire puddings, but you will also be delighted by grandmother-esque braised veal, penne Bolognese, or the simply great steak with potatoes and watercress. The course to economize on is appetizers; the course not to miss is dessert. Fun wine list, too.
