VIDEO: The trailer for Knowing
In Next, Nicolas Cage played a man who could see what was about to happen a few moments before it did. Here, in another dark glimpse of the future from Alex Proyas (I, Robot, The Crow, and Dark City), Cage's John Koestler obtains a Nostradamus scroll of numbers that predict not only past disasters, such as 9/11, but those to come.
Although he's an MIT astrophysicist, John doesn't use science to go at the mystery so much as pints of whiskey and lunatic calls to the FBI. Perhaps that's because he's still grieving over the loss of his wife — or perhaps he doesn't know what to think of the Ziggy Stardust clones who show up on his front lawn wanting something from his son (Chandler Canterbury).
The action takes place in and around Boston, but don't get too excited about seeing the local scenery — most of the film was shot in Australia. The plot, too, is a sham (shades of Signs and Close Encounters), and Proyas's slick visuals do little to dress it up.
