Just in time to round out my Ten Worst Films list comes this witless and excruciating rom-com from Marc Lawrence (Miss Congeniality). If you haven't heard about the Morgans, their story will sound familiar pretty quickly.
Meryl (a tedious and shrill Sarah Jessica Parker) and Paul (Hugh Grant, reduced to the twitching mannerisms of a broken marionette) Morgan, an estranged Manhattan power couple, bump into a murder scene, enter the witness-protection program, and are sent to Ray, Wyoming, about as far from a Starbucks as you can get in the lower 48. Will these city slickers learn something about real values while stranded in a big, empty red state?
Will Lawrence mock both rednecks and greenhorns with equally unfunny results and then beat us over the head with his fetishizing of parenthood? And why isn't there a federal program to protect people from witnessing movies like this?
