• Be on the lookout for BY BLOOD ALONE's new disc, Thunderbirds, which dropped on Tuesday. They'll play a gig to celebrate on April 22 at Geno's.
• STOWAWAYS mando player JOE WALSH is gearing up for the release of a solo disc, Sweet Loam, which will drop May 15 with a gig at One Longfellow. He's seen a lot of work backing the GIBSON BROTHERS lately, and they show up on the new album, along with the likes of fiddler DAROL ANGER (who also did most of the album engineering in JONATHAN COOPER's fiddle shop), cellist MIKE BLOCK, guitarist SCOTT LAW, banjo player WES CORBETT, and, well, lots of other talented folks from the national bluegrass scene. This has a chance to be a legitimately important disc in bluegrass circles.
• KURT BAKER is releasing a steady stream of new music. Next up is "Why You Gotta Lie," the latest of his original tracks recorded recently at JONATHAN WYMAN's joint. Drops via all the usual digital outlets on April 26.
