• The "Sibilance" staff will admit to never having heard CRUEL HAND's music before last week, but we find it remarkable that the Portland-based hardcore band have carved out a following in New Zealand, where they recently played a string of shows. The five-piece band just put out Lock and Key. Give it a listen if you're into the heavy stuff.
• JON NOLAN says his next album — the long-awaited follow-up to 2005's When the Summers Lasted Long — will be out by October.
• There's word that this weekend's set from WESLEY ALLEN HARTLEY AND THE TRAVELING TREES at AROOTSAKOOSTIC up in New Sweden will be the band's last show together. We're not sure what that means for Hartley, but we can tell you that's a damn fine reason for making the drive. They do a lot of things alt-country right.
• Um, JOSE AYERVE just joined up with the SPENCER ALBE e-fronted SPACE VERSUS SPEED (which also includes WALT CRAVEN and NEIL COLLINS)? Ridiculous.

It would appear Gypsy Tailwind's tumultuous ride has lost its backing breeze.
- Pig out on new 6gig
On stage a couple Fridays back, opening for Paranoid Social Club (who also have new work on the way shortly), 6gig frontman Walt Craven was as relaxed as I've ever seen him.
