More and more, museums are getting into the live-music scene. Jazzwise, the ICA (100 Northern Ave, Boston; 617.478.3103) hosts the “NEW MUSIC NOW” series with the Masada String Trio and pianist Uri Caine playing the music of John Zorn (April 17) and the series curators, reedmen Ned Rothenberg and Marty Ehrlich, leading their respective bands (April 18). Meanwhile, the “JAZZ AT THE GARDNER” series (Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, 280 the Fenway, Boston; 617.278.5156) continues with vocal group Syncopation (April 17).
SCULLERS (DoubleTree Guest Suites Hotel, 400 Soldiers Field Road, Boston; 617.562.4111) has jazz bassist Harvie Swartz in his Afro-Cuban guise as Harvie S. (April 2); Branford Marsalis’s piano man Joey Calderazzo (April 3); trumpeter Dave Douglas (April 8); the jazz-vocal showcase known as MOSS, with Kate McGarry, Theo Bleckmann, Peter Eldridge, and Lauren Kinhan (April 9); saxophonist David Sánchez (April 11-12); composer Carla Bley and her trio with bassist Steve Swallow and Andy Shepard (April 16); singer Karryn Allison (April 17); Travis Sullivan’s Björkestra with their big-band take on the Icelandic chanteuse (April 23); Boston go-to bassist Bruce Gertz (April 30), and pianist Taylor Eigsti leading a quartet with guitarist Julian Lage (May 14).
