Interview: Skeletonwitch’s Scott Hedrick
You know you've made it to rock’s Big Time when interviewers catch you as you're boarding a jet, instead of loading the tour van. And although Athens, OH's Skeletonwitch didn’t happen to be boarding their own Iron Maiden-like 747 when we reached them, they’ve got too much going on these days to make it all happen on four wheels.
Field Music | Field Music (Measure)
It takes some serious balls to release a double album in an age when Peter Gabriel would rather go bald than wear a fox pelt on his head.
Review: Vivian Girls at Great Scott
Could there be a more appropriate soundtrack to this past weekend's premature taste of spring than a Vivian Girls show?

Titus Andronicus | The Monitor
As if to allay any fears of a starchy Civil War concept album, Titus Andronicus frontman Patrick Stickles spends the first minute of The Monitor shouting out a series of cultural artifacts that postdate that conflict by, oh, about a hundred years: the Garden State Parkway, the Newark Bears, even the Fung Wah bus.
Indian Jewelry | Totaled
Mystery and confusion are sexy, and Indian Jewelry get that.
Gorillaz | Plastic Beach
Although this is their first album without an indie-chic producer, the fake band with fake cartoon characters known as Gorillaz stay the course as a very real post-Blur conduit for Damon Albarn's quasi-apocalyptic, '80s-daydreaming, neon-pop habit.
Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars | Rise & Shine
Although their music stands on its own, the backstory can't help but give it a deeper perspective.
Ralph Towner/Paolo Fresu | Chiaroscuro
For some, these open, airy, acoustic guitar/trumpet duets, couched in typically pristine ECM production, will fall too easily on the ear.
Continental drift
It's fitting that when I finally get Jean-Benoît Dunckel on the phone, he's just stepped off a plane.
The Big Hurt: Now hiring
If you're a musician looking to break into the big leagues, now's your chance.
Ian King | Panic Grass And Fever Few
Just a few weeks after we reviewed the belated release of African Head Charge's latest, another, more recent gem from the always rewarding sonic laboratory of Adrian Sherwood arrives.

MY UNCLE, THE ASTRONAUT
| May 19, 2010
As NASA’s Space Shuttle program winds down to a close this November after 33 years and 134 launches, I was lucky enough to catch the 132nd launch this past Friday, which was also the final flight of Atlantis, one of three remaining operational orbiting vehicles in the fleet.
