Review: Waiting for Dublin

A national-stereotypes manual masquerading as a movie

VIDEO: The trailer for Waiting for Dublin

In this national-stereotypes manual masquerading as a movie, '90s "heartthrob" Andrew Keegan is Michael Kirk, a dopy, annoying World War II Army Air Force pilot who falls from the sky into the arms of sassy, red-haired Margaret (Jade Yorell) in the Irish town of "McGilligan's Point" (perhaps they meant Island?).

Director Roger Tucker fills the emerald hills with snoozing priests, bumbling alcoholic policemen, ruddy-faced children, and grizzled fiddle players who say, "Top o' the mornin' to yeh!" Just for kicks, there's also an ambiguously accented, scar-faced German "assassin" in a black trenchcoat who runs around looking as unmenacing as possible.

If you think it's hilarious to see a man get shot in the crotch with a crossbow and then yell "Erin go bragh!" in chipmunk squeal, you might enjoy this mind-numbing bastardization of history.
