Impossible Shapes

All-Time Best Band: Jackson 5
All-Time Best Solo Artist: Michael Jackson
Best New Band: Impossible Shapes

The gold standard of bubblegum pop, the JACKSON 5 were more than the sum of their parts, which is easy to understand, as one of those parts was Tito. With the quintet of siblings from Gary constantly drilled by their overbearing father, Joe — the Lou Pearlman of his era — the band ruled the charts and set the table for disco’s dominance of the 1970s. | The star of that group, duh, was MICHAEL JACKSON, who ascended to the throne and title King of Pop, before imploding as the Citizen Kane of pop, or, if you will, the American Gary Glitter. At least he taught us to moonwalk first. | The official band manifesto of Bloomington’s IMPOSSIBLE SHAPES states that “Our sound shall be one of exploration, discovery, and surprise.” It caught us by surprise that bands today even have manifestos, but we enjoy their psychedelic pop anyway. Some of the group’s members were also in the dazzlingly named, and recently dissolved, Zappa-esque freak-experimental side project John Wilkes Booze.

Re: Indiana
Micheal Jackson didn't do ANY solo work in indiana, he was all cali at that point.  Indiana's Solo artist begins and ends with John Mellencamp. Next to Joe Walsh, the most under appreiciated artist of the Rock Era.

Re: Indiana
Maybe you should stick only on the criteria . The best solo artist must be born in the state , the fact that he realeased his solo work in another state is not a problem at all , michael Jackson IS obviously the best solo artist of Indiana of all time .  Plus dont get me wrong but michael Jackson DID some solo work in Indiana when he was already young ,the name of the albums : Forever michael ; Got together and 2 other solo albums in the 60's while he was with the Jackson 5 . Before posting bullshit , make some reasearch man . Tha fact tha you dont like the man made you blinded , but like it or not :mihael Jackson i way far the best of all time for Indiana . Sorry for my english .

Jennyfer: Are you from Indiana? I'm betting you're not. Most hoosiers, including myself, would say Mellencamp.

Re: Indiana
Okay, I have read all your comments about this so called duel between Michael and Mellencamp. I am a huge fan of Michael's and have always deemed him the greatest performer, be it with his brothers or as a great solo artist. Regardless of whether or not he has done the majority of his music OUTSIDE of Indiana, he is still the best musical product to come out of Indiana. However, John Mellencamp is very talented(at least in the 80's he was) and he is true to his home state, so one could make a strong argument about him being the best solo artist from Indiana as he actually still lives there and is a true Indy boy. We appear to have a stalemate with this vote. I thought the whole idea was FROM the state. Michael was BORN, raised and did actually perform in Gary, Indiana as early as the age of 6 years old. All hail the King of POP!!
