In spite of its self-depreciating title, this odds-and-sods collection of the usual B-sides and other spare tracks lives up to some of the best material the Las Vegas foursome have delivered. The 17 tracks may have been assembled — allegedly as second-rate material — from outtakes, but the designation seems less of a statement of quality than a sign of the material’s fringe status in the Killers’ catalogue. There are the covers: Joy Division’s “Shadowplay,” Dire Straits’ “Romeo and Juliet,” the First Edition’s “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town”; there’s a tag team with Lou Reed on “Tranquilize” and a remix of “Mr. Brightside.” The rest of the disc wanders through extended mixes and secondary new and old recordings that amount to more than just a holdover until the next Killers studio album.
