LITTLE BIG TOWN, A PLACE TO LAND

Little Big Town, two guys and two gals, bounced around the lower depths of Nashville for several years before 2005’s
The Road to Here
made inroads on the still all-powerful country radio. The band’s main selling point are powerful though lush harmonies heard on deep-fried anthems like “Boondocks.” For their second CD, Little Big Town make implicit the debt they owe to the California rock of Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles (the sepia-toned CD cover also hints at the connection) in a way that makes Little Big Town seem fresh and thrilling compared to most other Music Row acts. “Evageline,” a song about psychological abuse, and “Vapor,” a catchy live-while-you-can number, are the best of the lot, taking flight thanks in large part to the expertly threaded voices. Although you may wish that the first single, “I’m With the Band, wasn’t about life on the road, even it is soaked in a sweetness that’s too rare these days.
