FACILITY ID NUMBER: MAR000513044 THE FACILITY AND TEMPORARY LICENSE: Merck operates a facility as a Large Quantity Generator of hazardous waste at 33 Avenue Louis Pasteur, in Boston, MA. It recently applied to the Department for a temporary license for the on-site treatment of sixteen (16) containers of potentially unstable compounds. The company has contracted Clean Harbors Environmental Services, Inc. (CHES) to perform this project. CHES specialists shall perform the stabilization procedure to provide for the safe transportation and disposal of the hazardous waste containers. Merck is not authorized to treat hazardous waste. Therefore, the Department is issuing a temporary license for the company effective September 12, 2008, for a 30-day period that will enable CHES specialists to perform a one time on-site treatment pursuant to procedures as set forth in the documentation enclosed with the license application. ACCORDIONIST HARLAN PLAYS Renowned accordionist Evan Harlan will be the featured guest artist at the Sunday, Sept 28 meeting of the Massachusetts Accordion Association (MAAA) at the Dolphin Restaurant (12 Washington Street, Natick Center) from 1-3 PM. Harlan will play solo works and offer a workshop on accordion repertoire and playing techniques. Evan Harlan is Professor of Contemporary Improvisation at the New England Conservatory of Music, and the leader of the Andromeda4 quartet. His other musical pursuits include composing and directing. Andromeda4 plays original music with the flavors of Americana, tango, gypsy and other passionate traditions. Harlan’s former quartet, Excelsior, featured unusual arrangements of classical compositions, mixing improvisation and unorthodox textures. Harlan has recorded and performed internationally with many jazz and world music ensembles, including the Dave Douglas Group, the Klezmer Conservatory Band, and the Von Trapp Singers. ___________________************___________************__________ The MAAA conducts monthly sessions for accordion enthusiasts, to encourage and enhance enjoyment of the accordion by its members, and to facilitate sharing accordion music with the community.
