BOUNTY: The new Art of the Americas Wing increased the MFA’s size by 28 percent and played to the museum’s strengths.

Following a couple of years of gallery closings, 2010 was a growth year for the Boston art scene. As 2009 ended, curator Jen Mergel was leaving the Institute of Contemporary Art to become the contemporary-art curator at the Museum of Fine Arts. The ICA kicked off 2010 by announcing it had hired Helen Molesworth away from Harvard to be its new head curator. In September, the Addison Gallery of American Art at Phillips Academy reopened after a renovation. In November, the MFA opened its giant new Art of the Americas Wing.
