Boston's going through an identity crisis; never has the city's music scene been so diverse, its sonic landscape so eclectic. But even as genres merge and sounds evolve, no-frills rock and roll is still king in these parts— and these eight new records will only further the cause.

THE DARKER HUES | Great Scott | March 8| Pairing up with Vermont's Rough Francis for a double-release-party bill, the Darker Hues offer a forcibly bent garage rock that's too cerebral for street punk and too aggro for indie.
