Letters to the Boston editor, May 20, 2011

Nose out of joint
By BOSTON PHOENIX LETTERS  |  May 18, 2011

Jeez, I go away on vacation and you guys go all Obama on me ("Obama's Rebirth," Talking Politics; "Taking the Long View," editorial, both May 6). If Obama sucked 10 days ago, why does a 40-minute Seal-team mission make him a hero? All he did was say "Go" when presented with information about the possible location of Osama bin Laden. I think any red-blooded American would have said the same thing.

Your noses are so far up the president's arse, it's hard to see your Birkenstocks. We should "engage in talks with the Taliban about cooling the war." Really? Obama is "the architect of bin Laden's death." What? It took thousands of people over 10 years to come up with the tip hand-delivered to the president last August that bin Laden was in Pakistan. And what of all the practices Obama hates so much, and of Gitmo? These actions, dating back to George W. Bush, were critical to us getting bin Laden. "Many overlooked the intensity of Obama's ambition." You're kidding, right? You praise Obamacare while admitting it is "imperfect." Ha. If you think MassHealth is a disaster, wait until we get the supercharged version!

This president is vulnerable, and recent polls prove how unpopular he is. We are all praying for 1/20/13!

SOUR TASTE

I'm normally a fan of Robert Nadeau's dining reviews, but his review of Nebo (Dining, April 22) disappointed me.

Saying that Nebo is "perhaps the only pasta/pizza restaurant in New England with a gluten-free menu" shows absolutely no research and/or knowledge on this topic. Yes, Nebo has a gluten-free menu. But if you checked review Web sites like Yelp or asked people with celiac, Nebo splits into two worlds: the people who like Nebo, and the people who had a very bad experience there.

Other gluten-free pizza/pasta places in New England include the Italian restaurant Encore in Providence, RI, and Pizza Palace in Milford. Besides these places, a lot of chains are offering great gluten-free menus, too: PF Chang's, the British Beer Company, Outback Steakhouse, Yard House, Papa Razzi, and Stone Hearth Pizza, among others.

I'll admit that I'm one of the few degenerates in this world that genuinely enjoys marzipan.

This letter is in response to your editorial, "Nuclear Failure" (March 18), covering the disaster in Japan. It never fails to amaze me that change always has to be the result of catastrophe.
  •   DIRTY 'WORK'  |  March 31, 2011
When I saw your " Out of Work " article (March 11), with its huge, awesome photograph and a title and subject I could relate to, I immediately picked up the paper.
