Extremist Fail
A political story could literally not contain more irony than the story of the USA PATRIOT Act and its effect on the modern extremist right-wing movement. The act, which was passed with nearly unanimous Republican support, is now being used to keep track of and watch over the very supporters of the party who voted for it.
The irony is only multiplied by the fact that these rabid, overzealous, ultra-religious, hyper-racist nutbags incessantly and arrogantly congratulate themselves on being “patriots.” The public leaders of these paranoid backwoods soldiers, like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh, are so bloated with ego and self-assurance in the face of contradictory fact and rational thought that they cannot help themselves, nor can their psycho followers, from proclaiming their own supreme holiness and self-righteous perfection at nearly every moment.
They whip their already dangerous supporters into an ever-intensifying bloodthirsty frenzy. The fact that some Tea Party supporters and these militias are now being investigated by agencies using methods devised by and supported by almost all Republicans and the entire conservative media is literally kick-to-the-balls funny. The truth is the only resistance to the USA PATRIOT Act came from the very party which is now being targeted by the right-wing domestic terrorists who are now finding themselves under the knife of the very act of which only the “enemy” Democrats disapproved.
I wonder if these American patriots would have the courtesy to thank the Dems before they blow them to pieces. Maybe while mailing out white powder or planning roadside-bomb attacks these folks should also send a few thank-you notes to staunch bastions of conservative principles like the ACLU and National Public Radio. The only thing that actually dilutes the amazing irony and humor here is the fact that these people are actually dangerous. They are for real. Limbaugh, Beck, and Fox News are seemingly trying to drag this country into a second civil war. Hundreds of thousands of Christian Soldiers across this country are praying at night not only to march onward into the End Times but to also have the chance to kill liberals, minorities, gays, professors, etc., before it’s all over.
Although I have never been a supporter of the USA PATRIOT Act, I do find it a bit reassuring to know that a piece of legislation aimed at stopping foreign terrorist organizations abroad from harming Americans domestically can now be used to stop American “patriots” from killing Americans in America. WTF.
